The visit was organised by Justyna Chwa?a, assistant to MEP Geringer de Oedenberg and a former student at the Strzegom High School, in response to the invitation of Zbigniew Suchyta, the school head teacher.

Ms Geringer de Oedenberg had recently been impressed by the productions of some of the school's students who took part in the "Portrait of a European family" competition. A team of three students and their coordinating teacher, Tomasz Marczak, was awarded a trip to Strasbourg to visit the European Parliament and attend a plenary session.

Both students and teachers had the opportunity to find out more about the role of the European Parliament in a worldwide context, the impact of the adoption and implementation of EU law in the Member States, and the European elections, the biggest-ever transnational election event, to be held in all the 27 Member States between 4 and 7 June 2009.

The event closed with a mini-competition which focused on students' EU knowledge.
