Meglena Kuneva, European Commissioner for Consumer Protection, said she was optimistic after the launch of the Spring Day for Europe campaign in Bulgaria at the Europe Direct Centre Veliko Tarnovo Office.

The event on 27 March was attended by a group of students and teachers who represented four local schools that registered with Spring Day 2009. Participants had the opportunity to discuss issues such as European citizenship, consumer rights, EU funding, European educational programmes and European elections with Commissioner Kuneva.

Kiril, aged 12, initially said he dreamed of visiting Paris, then added: 'Actually, I want to visit all the European countries.' Miglena, 19, was interested in the European elections and why young people need to vote.

Afterwards, the Commissioner wrote about the meeting in her blog:

"The meeting was very positive and I came away feeling optimistic - knowing that our efforts in Brussels and the issues that we deal with reach young people in the old Bulgarian capital. I look forward to working together with my colleagues on this great initiative."
