Dr. Klär talking to students in Koblenz, Germany

In the framework of the EU Back to school Day in Germany he discussed the EU's role in the international financial and economic crisis with about 50 future bank managers.

The students, who are expected to embrace managing positions in the bank system in Germany, were interested to find out more about the role of politics within the current crisis. State Secretary Dr. Klär shared his knowledge and expertise and encouraged students to express their ideas and concerns.

The guest pointed out that the European integration has been the most fruitful and most successful 'investment' of the 20th century. He furthermore emphasized that the EU's unique assets in times of crisis remain its member states' cooperation and solidarity. It is in fact this approach which prevents member states from taking national protectionist measures to fight the crisis.
