Austrians love “Back to School”

More than a hundred groups of school students took part in the Austrian government’s “Back to school” initiative in the week preceding Europe Day.

Some 81 staff members from the EU institutions went back to their old schools to talk about their work and life in Brussels and Luxembourg. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, both from guests and students, and many said they would be glad to repeat the action regularly.

I myself took part in four sessions in three schools, talking to over 200 students in all. My personal triumph was at the Business School in Klagenfurt when, at the end of a two-hour presentation, the students asked me to go on for another hour.
