Great success for the competitions! 13/06/2007 by: Agathe Djelalian
Primary and secondary schools put their creativity to the test in the Spring Day for Europe 2007 competitions, which were a great success with a total of 3 603 entries from 24 countries.
For “My anniversary stamp” competition, 2 286 primary school pupils designed a stamp dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the EU. Romanian schools lead the way with 864 entries, followed by Poland and Slovakia. In “My poster on Democracy” competition, secondary schools were invited to create a poster on democracy. Again, Romanian contributions are the most numerous. FYROM (Macedonia) is the second best represented country, followed by Poland and Lithuania.
The evaluation of entries is in two phases. Until 16 June, pedagogical experts from different fields and from all the involved countries will identify a shortlist of the best entries. In the second phase, the grand jury will meet in Brussels to select the winners who will be announced on the portal the third week of June and contacted by mail.
Pupils who created the 10 best posters will receive a PDA. The ten best stamps will be printed in a large-size format and framed. In addition, as the Belgian postal service runs a programme called ‘My Stamp’ which prints individual designs into real stamps that can be used for postings, the winning pupils will get a set of their stamps in a real stamp format.
The competitions are closed, but you can still register and participate in all the other pedagogical activities, role play, didactical games and contribute to the blog!
