Europe Day in Sweden with Commissionner Wallström 28/06/2007 by: Agathe Djelalian
Margot Wallström, Vice-President of the European Commission responsible for institutional relations and communications, plays an active part in Spring Day for Europe. On 9 May 2007, a few days before the online chat with European pupils, Commissionner Wallström travelled to Sweden (her homeland) to visit a secondary school in Stockholm to celebrate Europe Day.
On 9 May 2007, Commissionner Wallström spent the morning at the Central Station in Stockholm answering questions about the European Union and the future of Europe. The questions were posed by Daniel and Evelina, pupils from upper secondary school in Uppsala and Gothenburg. The students asked questions about the environment and refugees from outside of Europe. They also asked how young people can feel that they are a part of Europe. Vice-President Margot Wallström answered all the questions while travellers and commuters passed by.

After the stop at the Central Station she went to an upper secondary school called Tensta gymnasium and spent an hour answering questions from the students. The questions were about the EU´s agricultural support, Turkey's membership in the EU, European cooperation in foreign politics and the necessity of having a European union. Vice-President Margot Wallström believes that we need the European Union since it has been a peace project and it is working. Europe also needs to work together in order to tackle environmental problems. After the discussion, Margot Wallström went to hoist the European flag on the school yard.
