Welcome to the Spring Day for Europe 2007 Newsletter

This year, Europe Day on 9 May will spill over into a whole month of 50th anniversary celebrations. We invite you to be an active player in the celebrations in your school! You are part of the Spring Day for Europe 2007 community and we would like to share with you some features you are offered to organise Spring Day in your school. The Spring Day Portal is your chance to share, network and show what you are doing with your class.

Chat with key political leaders and listen to the Podcast interviews
Scheduled between March and June 2007, the chats aim to bring together a number of experts and classes to discuss the European Union. They give many schools unique opportunities to discuss important topics directly with people who work on the shaping of the EU. After the chat session, decision makers are interviewed at the EUN office and the Podcasts are available from the Podcast section of our website.
View the chat calendar and transcripts of the chat sessions.

Post to the Spring Day weblog and make your voice heard
"What future does the European Union hold for us?" In this blog, we give the floor to young Europeans to express their concerns, feelings, and hopes about the future of the EU and ask concrete questions on European issues. It is the place where you can make suggestions on how you feel Europe can get closer to its citizens. Experts from all EU institutions make comments and answer your questions.

Be famous for 30 minutes!
To be featured on the entry page of this Portal, you need to tell us about the Spring Day events organised in your school. Only registered schools can submit a report about what they are doing for celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome. To take part, you simply need to upload two photographs and a short summary of your national event. This is your chance to have 30 minutes of fame on the Web!
Click here to upload your pictures and reports.

Send an eCard to another European school
To wish the EU a happy birthday, send a Spring Day eCard to your friends in other classes and schools across Europe.

“Who’s going back to school?”: Invite guests at school
You can invite guests and organise a debate with them about the history and the future of the EU. Guests could be representatives from education authorities, MEPs, Members of the Committee of the Regions or local politicians. You need to check the person’s availability in advance and choose interesting topics such as the impact of the Treaties of Rome on the EU, the historical development of the EU or the impact of the EU now and in the future on their region. The European and national public figures invited to go to schools to debate the 50th anniversary of the European Union are featured on the Spring Day website.

Refer a school and get rewards
You can refer a school and share Spring Day for Europe 2007 with other teachers and pupils across Europe. If the school registers, you will automatically receive a bonus. The more schools you refer, the more points you will collect, and the more rewards (key holder, mouse-pad, USB key) you will get! You can check your bonus anytime on your profile page from the Spring Day website.
- You can also view and update your profile at any time on the portal. You can modify aspects of your account such as your general and logon information as well as your personal and school details.
